Double-Tap Modifier
Double-tap a modifier key to summon Chapeta. No chord required.
Double-tap any modifier key (Command, Option, Shift, or Control) to toggle Chapeta. This is the fastest way to invoke Chapeta because you do not need to reach for a specific key combination. Just tap the same modifier key twice in quick succession.
How to Set Up
- Open Chapeta settings (gear icon or Cmd+,).
- Go to the General tab.
- Find the Double-Tap Modifier section.
- Select which modifier key to use: Command, Option, Shift, or Control.
- Grant Accessibility permissions when prompted (required for modifier key monitoring).
What You Get
Double-Tap Command
Tap the Command key twice quickly. Most popular choice since Command is the most reachable modifier.
Double-Tap Option
Tap the Option key twice quickly. Good alternative if Command double-tap conflicts with other tools.
Double-Tap Shift
Tap the Shift key twice quickly. Less common but avoids conflicts with most shortcuts.
Double-Tap Control
Tap the Control key twice quickly. Least likely to conflict with existing shortcuts.
Technical Details
Chapeta monitors modifier key events using an Accessibility-authorized CGEvent tap. It detects two presses of the same modifier within a 300ms window with no other keys pressed between them. This approach avoids false triggers during normal modifier+key shortcuts.
Requirements
- macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later
- Accessibility permissions (System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility)
- Only one modifier key can be configured at a time
